Dulwich College may seem like an unusual choice when it comes to celebrating a big event, but Rosanna and Barnaby’s wedding demonstrated just how perfect it can be. Dating back to the 17th century, this prestigious educational establishment adds a touch of class, sophistication, and fun that you just won’t find anywhere else. As a London wedding photographer, I’ve seen my fair share of local venues, but never have I seen somewhere so magical. It was like the bride and groom were getting married at Hogwarts!
Rosanna and Barnaby’s wedding was held in the Old Library, holding a modest 120 guests for a more intimate ceremony. The venue is very classic is design, having been built in the early 20th century, with large windows allowing enough natural light for me to take ‘real’ photos of the occasion, but also allowing me to use the flash, creating more theatrical photos. The doors of the Old Library open up a large lawn area, perfect for taking some group shots outdoors on pleasant days, such was this one.
When I was asked to act as Rosanna and Barnaby’s Dulwich College wedding photographer, I was excited about the all the opportunities available to me in such a traditional, intellectual, and historic setting. The college itself, with its vibrant red bricks and classic European Palladian architecture, is the perfect backdrop for such romantic events. However, the interior is equally as stunning. I photographed all over, including amongst the shelves and shelves of historic texts lining the walls, on the winding staircases, and underneath the impressive arches of the Great Hall. This really is a venue that’s as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.
For those planning a summer wedding, this venue is ideal. The buildings of Dulwich College overlook the college’s gardens, and drinks receptions can be held on the lawn prior to the reception. While the Great Hall and the Lower Hall are primarily used for weddings, there are also a number of other options available, including the Pavillion Salle, Christison Hall, and the Trevor Bailey Sports Ground. I really enjoyed shooting at Dulwich College, and am looking forward to my next trip to this wonderful venue.
